Novice Women's Assistant Coach
Amanda joined Norcal in Fall 2019 as assistant coach for Varsity Men and in Fall 2020 she moved over to coach Novice Women. Having joined Bair Island Aquatic Center in 2012, Amanda is no stranger to the waterway. She rows for the competitive masters team at Bair Island Aquatic Center (BIAC), serves as newsletter editor and helps with digital media for the club. She is also a Coastal Rowing Coach at BIAC and has competed in the last two Coastal World Championships. Most recently, she joined the committee for the U19 Coastal Rowing Camps at BIAC/Norcal to get kids involved in the growing sport of Coastal Rowing.
Having no idea rowing existed (what other excuse is there?), Amanda started varsity athletics with cross-country and track in high school. When she discovered crew at the University of California at San Diego, she found out what she’d been missing. She medaled at WIRA and PCRCs in both the 8+ and the 4+ and was hooked.
As a masters rower, Amanda has won gold at regattas including Canadian Henley Masters, US Rowing’s Masters National Championships and Head of the Lake and finished highly at Head of the Charles, San Diego Crew Classic, Masters Worlds and Coastal World Championships among others.
In between training, rowing and coaching, Amanda uses her degree in Computer Art & Design to work as a freelance graphic designer and marketing contractor. Spending much of her time playing with fonts and updating websites, she can passionately talk about good design in equal measure with rowing stories.
