Tom Taylor

Varsity Men's Assistant Coach

Tom is a men’s varsity assistant coach. This is his first coaching role, but he brings to it a love of the sport, and of teamwork and competition in general.

He began rowing after the London 2012 Olympic Games—no actual connection, though he did work as a volunteer there, and was feeling inspired by being just a little part of the Olympic movement. He climbed up through the novice, intermediate, and competitive teams at BIAC, the masters program that rows out of the same boathouse as Norcal. He also trained with Row New York when he briefly lived in New York City. He has competed at regattas including the Head of the Charles and US Rowing’s Masters Nationals.

When Tom isn’t near the water, he’s most likely to be found either riding a bike, or writing and editing in a nearby cafe. After gaining his Ph.D. from Stanford University in Aeronautics and Astronautics, Tom decided to make the leap to journalism. He has written for Sports Illustrated, and is currently the editor of a startup science and technology publication called SportTechie.
