Susan Rappold
Women's U15/U16 Head Coach
Susan Rappold is a passionate and experienced rowing coach known for nurturing rowing fundamentals, especially among novices. Since joining B-CC Crew (Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School) as Head Novice Boys Coach, Susan brought a deep commitment to introducing newcomers to the sport, shaping confident, capable rowers. She previously coached at the Texas Rowing Center in Austin, where she led programs ranging from novice boys to masters, handling everything from pair and single lessons to developmental crew work (BCC-Crew).
Her rowing journey began at the Pensacola Rowing Club in 2014, where she started as a rower before becoming a coxswain. At the Texas Rowing Center, Susan coached a range of crews, including novice and masters programs in both single and pair boats (BCC-Crew).
In her competitive involvement, Susan has achieved notable successes: a 3rd place in Men’s Lightweight Novice 4+ at ACRA, 8th place at the Head of the Charles, 2nd at the San Diego Crew Classic, and two 1st‑place finishes at U.S. Masters Nationals, among other medals (BCC-Crew).
A recent graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, she earned a degree in Linguistics with a Creative Writing certificate. Susan believes deeply in the power of rowing to form community and provide belonging wherever she goes—a mindset that has become central in her coaching philosophy.
